The Cannon Ball Tree

The Cannon Ball Tree

A native of South America and can grow up to 20 metre tall. It has flowers and fruits growing from its trunk.

The flowers are borne in long bunches and grow out of the trunk near the ground to the upper branches of the tree. They are fragrant, large and pinkish-yellow in colour.

The fruits are brown in colour, large and round like cannon balls.
When ripen, the fruit dropped down with a thud and cracked open. So be careful and do not walk or rest under the cannon ball tree.

A story about the cannon ball tree.
Long long ago, in South America. A fort was under siege by war ships. The food and ammunition are getting lesser and lesser as the days passed. One day, the fort commander comes up with an idea. He got his men to collect the cannon ball fruits, painted them black and piled them around the fort so that the enemy can see them.
The enemy commander see that the fort is very well stock with cannon balls. His ships will run out of cannon balls before the fort does.
He decided to leave.
