Wild Water Lemon - Passiflora foetida

Wild Water Lemon - Passiflora foetida

I was cycling along Pasir Ris Drive 3. As I passed the bridge over Sungei Api Api I saw this Wild water lemon creeping vine with flowers and fruits.

The fruit is an edible small berry. It is covered with leafy sepals and changes from green colour to orange when ripe. The wild water lemon plant is also called Pok Pok plant because when squeezed the fruit bursts open with a "POK" sound. Another name for it is "Chiau pok" in Hokkien dialect because birds like to eat it.

The above photographs are taken by me with a small compact camera which is convenient to carry in my waist pouch.
